In the old Vegas days, Rich Little was the king of the voices, specializing in Richard Nixon. That's all gone, and now Danny Gans is the undisputed ruler of impersonation and singing on the Vegas Strip. His show, which is now at the Mirage, sells out regularly, and doesn't give comps, something that proves its staying power.
Gans started his professional life as a minor league baseball player, and I even attended a home run contest between him and some of the players on what were then the Las Vegas Stars baseball team at Cashman Field. He was pretty good, but shouldn't quit his night job. Gans realized that his funny voices and a burgeoning song career could be combined, and, after getting injured, Gans perfected his voices and started out. Gans did corporate seminars, then a Broadway show for a few years, but he jumped at the chance to settle down in Las Vegas, starting at the Rio and moving to the Mirage a few years later, and it has been voted the Best of Las Vegas a number of years.
So who will you see at Danny Gans Las Vegas show? How about an Unforgettable duet with Nat King Cole and Natalie, with both sides Danny? Kermit the Frog makes an appearance, as well as Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, and Michael Jackson. Cheap ticket reservations are almost impossible, since tickets are $100 each, but that doesn't mean they can't be had. If you stay at the Mirage, where the Danny Gans show is housed, you can get some preferential treatment.
