Until the tragedy with Roy Horn (he's the brunette who was chomped by his striped, furry buddy), the white tigers and Siegfried and Roy were the face of the Mirage for 20 years. Now, without the dynamic duo, the Mirage Las Vegas still holds an important place in Vegas history and the present. It was one of the first casinos I ever visited some 20 years ago, which blew me away to see a rain forest in the lobby, white tigers next to registration, and an erupting volcano out front.
The White Tigers still play a large part in the Mirage Hotel Las Vegas' image. They still have the Secret Garden as well as the tiger and dolphin habitats, the only place in all of Clark County, Nevada, much less the US to see these animals. The live entertainment at the Mirage rivals anywhere else on the Strip.
It starts with Danny Gans , man of a thousand voices. Moving across Las Vegas Boulevard from another Casino when S & R were winding down, he is the Entertainer of the Year, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, for a number of years running. Plus, the Mirage Resort Las Vegas also has lots of comedy, including Jay Leno, and almost the entire cast of Everybody Loves Raymond .
Cost-wise, it isn't cheap. Unless you find some super deal or know someone, you're paying more than $100 a night and most likely closer to $200 on the weekend. That being said, the location is GREAT. Right in the heart of the strip, in walking distance to a number of places. I enjoy my stays at the Mirage, which also has very good dining.
