The newest and most spectacular property on the strip is the Wynn Las Vegas, the newest offering from LV hotel mogul Steve Wynn, who tore down the old Desert Inn and re-made it into an opulent area for high rollers and golf fans. After a five-year wait, they finally opened the hotel at a cost of $2.7 billion dollars, and fans got a chance to see. The reviews have been a little mixed. We expected the best in all of Clark County , Nevada , and got what seems to be a rather updated version of Wynn's other billion-dollar dream, the Bellagio.
The idea of the Wynn Las Vegas Resort is luxury. Owner Steve Wynn is not only the namesake of the Wynn Hotel Las Vegas, he wants to make it an extension of himself. As such, he has sunk plenty into the lobby, the rooms, and all around. Not only that, but he has also convinced Cirque Du Soleil to start up a fifth show on the LV strip as the headlining entertainment, Le Reve , which is in the round, and $121 for every seat.
The Desert Inn golf course is my favorite in all of Las Vegas , and when Steve Wynn bought the property, I was afraid he was going to rip it up. Luckily, he didn't; he just re-designed it. He hired Tom Fazio, who also designed Shadow Creek. Greens Fees will be a little steep, like $500 steep, but it's a beautiful looking course if you have an expense account.
Room rates are not as crazy as you might think. Weekends are still near $300, but midweek can be had in the $179.00 range. Go to www.wynnlasvegas.com for reservations and more information about the hotel. On the phone, hit up 1-888-320-WYNN, and good luck!
